breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is wonderful. I enjoy being able to breastfeed my dd every day.

Still, you might come accross some hurdles along the way.

It's good to know a breastfeeding consultant so you can contact her right away if problems arise. You can also attend meetings of your local breastfeeding group. It's nice to meet some of the other mothers in your area, and you might have a lot in common besides breastfeeding your baby.

These are two large breastfeeding associations I know of:

La Leche League: http://www.llli.org/
IBLCE: http://iblce.org/

Some things I have learned about breastfeeeding:

~ The natural age of weaning is between 2 and 6 years old. Even them WHO recommends you breastfeed for child for at least two years, the first six months of which exclusively.
~ Breastfeeding can be your rescue if your toddler is sick and refuses all foods except for your breastmilk (no or much less risk of dehydration).
~ Your breastmilk can kill certain germs that might otherwise be dangerous for your child.
~ Babies love nursing!
~ It's the pregnancy, and aging, that will change how your breasts look. Not breastfeeding.
~ If you are out and about with your baby, you always have their milk with you. I didn't realize how practical that actually is until I saw mothers of babies who get formula, carrying around several bottles of water (hot / medium / cold) and a lot of other equipment.
~ It's free (although you will be more hungry)!
